Patsy’s Story

My mother is in jail.
My friends are pregnant. But I’m going to college.

In her own words:
“I doubt I ever would have finished high school if it had not been for Mission Waco’s teen program.”

Her mother had been in jail for eight years. Her grandmother was raising eight children, and home was besieged by family arguments — in a neighborhood rife with drugs, addiction, and friends who were getting pregnant. And Patsy was bored to tears. That combination can be lethal.

Joining our Youth Development Program, Patsy found a place where, for four years, she grew to become more of who God created her to be. Spring 2007, she graduated from Waco High with a 3.49 GPA, earning all A’s her senior year. Now she’s off to college with a Mission Waco scholarship in hand. Patsy says, “I want to be a nurse and make a difference in the lives of others, and I want to earn enough to care for my grandmother who gave so much for me.”
