Brian’s Story
I was homeless.
Sleeping on the ground. Now I’m a groundskeeper!
In his own words: “I still come to Mission Waco, but now it’s to show
other homeless folks that they can overcome their
struggles. I tell them If I can do it, anyone can!”
Homeless. Unemployed. Nowhere to go, Brian knew the pain of being at the very bottom. While staying at Mission Waco’s homeless shelter, he also enrolled in our program that assists day laborers and temps to find meaningful, permanent jobs. There Brian gained important job finding skills and the confidence to try one more time to beat the streets.
Armed with renewed hope and good training, Brian was placed in an unpaid internship with the City of Waco, where other employees noticed his exemplary performance and great attitude. As soon as the internship ended, he was immediately hired full time. Today Brian is a groundskeeper for Parks and Recreation, recently bought a car, and has been approved for a loan to buy a house.
